Die Wiesbadener Gruppe live in Altena im Frühling 1970. Drei überlange Stücke, zwei davon nie auf LP erschienen. Eine Mischung aus Jazz und Psychedelic. Gute Aufnahme. Auf der Hülle die schöne Burg Altena.

The Wiesbaden band live in Altena in spring 1970. Only three long instrumental tracks, two of them never re-leased on LP. Jazz-psych. Good sound quality. The cover shows the nice medieval castle of Altena.

I can’t wait / Electric fun fair / Xholenium

Nachdem sie ihren Namen von Xhol Caravan zu Xhol verkürzt hatten, traten sie 1970 noch einmal in Altena auf, und wieder nahm Veranstalter Heinz Bonsack das Ganze fachmännisch auf. Dank seiner vorausschauenden Umsicht ist nun der Mitschnitt auf der randvollen CD zu hören. Lange Improvisationen. Diesmal etwas jazziger als im Jahr zuvor, die beiden Saxophone stehen im Vordergrund, kein Gesang mehr. Weniger abwechslungsreich. Das vergleichsweise kurze „Electric fun fair“ kennt man schon von „Electrip“ her, die beiden überlangen Stücke „I can’t wait“ und „Xholenium“ waren bisher noch nicht auf Platte zu hören. Die Hülle der CD zeigt das Wahrzeichen von Altena, die beeindruckende Burg, die mit Verlies, Türmen, beleuchtetem Brunnenschacht, Museum und der ältesten Jugendherberge Deutschlands besichtigt werden kann.

After shortening their name from Xhol Caravan to Xhol, they had another gig in Altena, and again promoter Heinz Bonsack professionally recorded the concert. Due to his foresighted circumspection, it is now fixed on the CD, except for only one track which had to be left out for a lack of space. It is jazzier than the concert of the previous year, with the two saxophones dominating, no vocals and less varied. The comparatively short track “Electric fun fair” could be heard already on “Electrip”, the two songs with overlength “I can’t wait” and “Xholenium” had never previously been released on any record. The CD cover shows the Altena emblem, the impressive castle that – with its dungeon, towers, illuminated well shaft, museum and the oldest youth hostel of Germany – is a great attraction for visitors (http://www.burg-altena.de).
