Ein gelungener Versuch, die akustischen Einfälle von Amadeus Reineck an der Gitarre und Sitar mit den elektronischen Basteleien von Michael Lapp an den Tasten zu verbinden, während der Gastgesang (von Caroline McCombs) und der Baß (von Dieter Bauer gespielt) nur spärlichst zu hören sind. 1976 hatten sich die beiden in der Berliner Kleinkunstszene kennengelernt und von da an zusammengearbeitet, bis es schließlich 1980 zur LP-Veröffentlichung von "Just a try" kam, die aber unterging. Wohl zu Unrecht, denn die Platte ist durchgehend hörenswert, wie man sich leicht überzeugen kann. Daß die Gruppe in Sammlerkreisen bisher kaum bekannt ist, wird sich nun wahrscheinlich ändern. Von den Freeman-Brüdern wird Try mit Ashra, Cluster, Rolf Trostel und Anthony Phillips verglichen. Die CD wurde von den Mutterbändern gezogen.

A successful attempt to combine the acoustic ideas of Amadeus Reineck on guitar and sitar with the electronic experiments of Michael Lapp on keyboards, while the vocals (by guest singer Caroline McCombs) and bass (Dieter Bauer) are well in the background. The two of them had met in Berlin in 1976 and started to work together until in 1980 they released their LP "Just a try" which, however, didn’t get much attention - unjustly so, for the record is worth listening to throughout. The fact that the group is as yet hardly known in collectors’ circles will probably change now. The CD was taken from the master tapes. Steven and Alan Freeman write: "An interesting duo with stylings akin to Ashra, Cluster, Rolf Trostel and Anthony Phillips: otherwise ranging from upbeat echo guitar and synthesizers onto multi-textured guitar pieces, and many other places in between."
